Holidays and rules don’t agree with one another. When wanderlust strikes, it can plant dreams in your head about towering trees, majestic desert landscapes, pristine beaches and blue seas. Or, it can put you in the mood for a more eccentric variety of adventure. The kind that is nestled amid mountains and springs but has stories to tell about war and UFO sightings.

Commanding a prominent location on the Stuart highway, Wycliffe Well Holiday Park has welcomed tired travellers for a century and a half, first as a watering point long the Overland Telegraph Line stock route, then as a market garden centre for passing soldiers during World War II, and then as a refuelling station for holidaying tourists.

Camp at this quirky alien-themed holiday park the next time you’re in or around Alice Springs. Binge on delectable dishes at the property’s in-house restaurant, and sample Australia’s largest selection of beers at the bar. Stay the night in the hope of a UFO sighting or two, and spend your days exploring the Devils Marbles conservation reserve, located just a few minutes away.
