Q & A

  • What is an inverter generator?

An inverter generator is a lightweight compact and generally silenced generator. More often than not the generator is housed in a small suitcase style exterior that helps keep noise emissions low and allows for easy transportation.

The inverter is equipped with a microprocessor that inverts DC power back to AC power. This inversion produces a clean pure sine wave power output that is effective for powering modern appliances with sensitive electronics on board.

Another main benefit is the economical fuel consumption of an inverter generator. The engine is throttle controlled and when set to Economy idle, will rev up and down to match the load being drawn. This feature allows for longer run times and cheaper running costs than the conventional style generators.

  • What is the best size generator to run my caravan?

A 2000W - 2400W silenced Inverter Generator is a good size for powering your appliances in your caravan, but you will not be able to run everything at the same time.

The advantage of choosing a generator in this range is size and weight. Most of the models in the 2000 - 2400W range are between 20 and 30KG and can fit in most generator lock boxes mounted on the van.

Examples of typical power draw of caravan appliances:

    • Caravan Microwave - 900W
    • Domestic standard Microwave - 2000W - 2200W
    • Air Conditioner 2000W - 2400W Call us for advice if you need to power an Air Con
    • Coffee Pod Machine 1300W - 1800W
    • TV - 200W
    • Upright Caravan Fridge - 50W - 100W
    • Battery Charger - 500W - 900W

Some people prefer to grab a good quality 3000W inverter generator on wheels (example the Briggs & Stratton P3400 Inverter generator) if they want to run a few appliances at the same time.

It is always important to purchase a silenced inverter for caravan applications.

  • What type of oil do I need to use with my petrol inverter generator?

Hi, the oil you require is either 10W-30 or 10W-40, please advise the product manual for the correct oil. These types of oils can be purchased at any service station.

  • Can this generator run my air conditioner?

    Great question!

When buying a generator to run anything in your caravan or motorhome, it is important that you first know what air conditioner you are using. After that you will need to know the specifications of the air conditioner to check the running power and starting power requirements. Then compare the values of the MaxWatt range - you can find a comprising table under Product Description or HERE

  • I'm looking at a MaxWatt generator, what warranty does the range have?

All MaxWatt generators have a 2 year warranty or up to 500 running hours whichever comes first. But if you are using it commercially, the warranty will instead be either up to 300 running hours or 2 years.

  • What fuel should I use with the MaxWatt Generator?

All of the MaxWatt generators are all suitable for a standard grade unleaded fuel, including regular, premium and ultra premium. There is also no need to add any oil to the fuel, as they are fuel efficient.

  • Are the MaxWatt generators built to Australian standards?

Yes, the MaxWatt range is all designed for the Australian market. All the models have a 4-stroke petrol engine with overhead valves that complies with the Australian standards.

  • Are these generators hard to move?

MaxWatts entire range is designed to easily maneuver. They are all designed with lifting handles to ensure a easy move.

The MX4000IS is also designed with wheels, to ensure even easier mobility.

  • How do I maintain the life of my generator?

To ensure you're maintain your generator, firstly, also as a safety note, always stop the engine and let the generator cool down before starting any maintenance work.

    Our main general tips are;

    1. Replace engine oil
    2. Check spark plug, replace if necessary
    3. Check fuel level and ensure it is fresh fuel (fuel left for a long time can go ""off"")
    4. Check air filter, replace if necessary
    5. Clean muffler cover and check spark arrestor

For further maintenance help, you should take your generator to a small engine specialist or an accredited generator service technician.

  • Will this generator fit on my slide out tray in my caravan?

The entire MaxWatt range is similar in size to the other leading generators in the market. So we cant see any reason why it shouldnt fit in your caravan/RV storage space.

But to be on the safe side - we recommend measuring your space first and comparing it to the dimensions on the model you would like to buy.

  • I can see that the MaxWatt Inverter generators all come with a parallel cable, but how I connect them as parallel?

Yes, exactly! All the MaxWatt Inverter generators come standard with the parallel cable, compared to other brands where you will have to purchase it at an additional cost.

For the installation, we recommend you to see the generator manual, or you can also contact our team at Caravan RV Camping.

  • Are MaxWatt generators reliable?

Yep, they sure are! MaxWatt are a family owned and operated business that was established in Brisbane in 2017. These units are a budget, but reliable option for an inverter generator. Compared to other models in the same price range, the MaxWatt come with a 2 years manufacturer warranty.

  • What is the difference between the AVR and inverter MaxWatt generators?

    1. Inverter generators produce pure sine wave electricity, making them a safer option for smaller electronics, such as mobile phone, and laptop chargers.

    2. Conventional generators are able to produce more power, and are cheaper. The inverter models also are lighter and easier to carry around. The MaxWatt inverter generators are also quieter than the AVR generators, which can be good for home backup, as well as some businesses.
