Who Are Adam & Clara?
We’re Adam and Clara, a photographer and content creator duo who have been travelling Australia full time for the past three and a half years. We started out in a self-converted Toyota Coaster, but recently made the switch to a Prado so we could explore more remote destinations and tackle tracks that weren’t possible in the bus.
We’re currently travelling Western Australia, creating photo and video content for tourism boards and operators, accommodation providers and outdoor brands, while documenting our own adventures along the way all on @adam.and.clara. Whether it’s hiking through national parks, discovering remote campsites or taking the long way around, we hope our adventures inspire others to explore more of Australia for themselves.
What Did You Include In Your 4WD Fit Out?
Our goal was to build a setup that gave us the freedom to live, work and explore off-grid for weeks at a time without compromising on the comforts that make life on the road enjoyable.
We built a complete electrical system around a Renogy 300Ah Mini battery, 3000W inverter and solar setup, alongside a Bushman DC85X Upright Fridge and DC30 Drawer Fridge/Freezer. We also added a custom drawer system, rooftop tent, awning, induction cooktop, and dedicated storage for our camera gear and camping equipment.
One of the biggest advantages was being able to source almost everything through Caravan RV Camping. Having everything in one place made the whole process much simpler, and knowing the products were compatible took a lot of the guesswork out of planning the build.
What’s Your Favourite Bit Of Gear & Why?
It’s hard to choose just one! Our Renogy electrical system is the backbone of the setup, and paired with our Bushman upright fridge and drawer fridge/freezer, it means we can comfortably stay off-grid for days at a time without compromising on the things we use every day.
Whether we’re making coffee in the middle of nowhere, editing photos after a day of exploring, or cooking dinner as the sun goes down, it’s the system quietly working in the background that makes it all possible. It’s one of those things we barely think about anymore because it just works.
What Advice Would You Give Other Couples Travelling In A 4WD?
Don’t feel like you need the biggest or most expensive setup to start exploring. Build your vehicle around the way you actually travel, not someone else’s.
It’s easy to get caught up watching everyone else’s builds online, but the best setup is the one that suits your own lifestyle. Spend time thinking about what you’ll genuinely use every day, invest in quality gear, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Do You Work Much On The Road? Any Tips?
We have a creative business together and work full-time while travelling, so having reliable power is essential.
Every day looks a little different. Some days we’re exploring a new area and capturing content, while others are spent editing, sending proposals, chatting with clients or planning our next adventure. Whatever the day looks like, reliable power sits behind everything we do.
Our biggest tip is to build a setup with a little more capacity than you think you’ll need. As your travels evolve, you’ll often find yourself adding more gear or staying off-grid for longer than expected, so having that extra capacity gives you much more flexibility and peace of mind.
What’s Your Favourite Destination In Australia?
This is always the hardest question because Australia has so many incredible places!
If we had to choose one, it would probably be the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory. We did sections of the Larapinta Trail when we were there a few years ago and have been itching to go back ever since to hike the whole thing. The waterholes, landscapes and night skies out there are just magical.
We definitely find ourselves drawn to Australia’s remote places. There’s something really special about getting off the beaten track, setting up camp in the middle of nowhere, and spending a few days completely immersed in nature. That’s where having a reliable off-grid setup really comes into its own.
