Emma, Jesse and their pup Ryder are the faces behind @vancyandthetrio, travelling Australia in their self-converted Iveco van, affectionately named Vancy. With no previous van-building experience but plenty of enthusiasm, they took on the challenge of designing and building their dream home on wheels from the ground up.
Tell Us About Your Outdoor RV Living Space
Our outdoor space was created around convenience and allowing us to live outdoors as much as indoors. Our 12V awning makes it quick and easy to set up, and once the anti-flap kit and walls are attached the whole outdoor area is complely private, and away from the weather. We also have a draw that pulls into an outdoor kitchen that we love to use in this area with everything setup. It makes the whole space feel much bigger.
Is A 12V Awning Worth It?
Absolutely - We wouldn’t use our awning nearly as much if it wasn't for the 12V set up. We don't have to pull out poles, or rush out into the weather to bring the awning in if it gets too windy, we can just press a button and not have to stress about it at all.
Do Anti-Flap Kits Really Make A Difference?
We always thought anti-flap kits were overrated, but it has been a game changer for feeling like the awning isnt going to fly away, and allows us to have it set up for longer periods without having to worry about wind or weather conditions.
What Tip Would You Give To Someone Building Their Outdoor Space?
We would highly recommend building it for convenience, making it as easy to set up as possible. Get a good quality awning that won’t easily break, and a sand mat to finish off the area. If you want extra privacy grab yourself some privacy walls and you will have a setup better than most people!
What’s Your Favourite Destination In Australia?
Jesse's favourite spot was the Gibb River Road - the whole Kimberley region is abolsutely incredible and unique, it is a must go destination! Emma' s favourite spot is Exmouth, it has some of our favourite memories there, being able to swim with whale sharks and spend all day at the beach, snorkeling and seeing Sea Turtles. Ryder’s favourite spot is anywhere with a beach, being able to chase the drone around and spend all day lounging around!
