Q & A

How do I deactivate the child-lock in my RUA/RUC model refrigerator?
These models have a great lock for children to prevent any accidental adjustments. If you are unable to change the temperature or the power source, you have most likely activated the child-lock. You can either permanently deactivate or temporarily override the lock - please see below:
Temporarily Override the Child-lock:
- First push the control knob 3 times within 1.5 seconds
- The lock will be reactive again after 10 seconds without touching the control knob
Permanently Deactivate the Child-lock:
- Start with doing a temporarily override, after that simply turn off the child lock in the settings menu
-
How often do I need to service my Dometic RV/Caravan appliances?
Dometic recommend servicing their gas appliances on a yearly basis, even if the vehicle has not been used. Additionally, bear in mind that insects can built nests in the gas appliances which will cause the appliances to stop working. It can also cause potentially dangerous scenarios.
For other appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, to ensure the appliances to work efficiently and last longer it is recommended to clean the condenser.
-
What do I need to think about in regards of the ventilation with my Dometic compressor fridge?
Dometic Compressor fridges work best when there is air flowing across the compressor.
For small to medium sized Dometic fridges (CRX50, CRX80 & CRX110), minimum of one vent is required. This should be mounted in the van wall, parallel to the compressor at the top of the fridge. Vent options are:
- Medium Sized Optional Extra:
- Dometic AS1635 Lower Vent - White
- Dometic AS1635 Lower Vent - Black
- Large Sized Vent:
- Dometic LS300 Large Fridge Vent and Frame
- Dometic LS300-B Large Fridge Vent and Frame, Black
For the CRX140 is a little different, the fridge compressor is mounted on the top of the fridge. It is best to only use one vent mounted at the top rear of the fridge. Install the fridge in a way that you can pull air from the front, up the side of the fridge over the compressor and out the vent.
The compressors above 140 Litre, (RUC6408X & RUC8408X), these large sized fridges require two vents, one at the bottom and one at the top. In this case it would be best to choose the 2 x LS300 vents.
- Medium Sized Optional Extra:

-
Can I use extension power cables or power strips with the fridge?
By avoiding additional switches, plugs or power strips, you avoid voltage drops and loss of performance. Instead keep the connection cable as short as possible and uninterrupted.
-
I'm looking to purchase a Dometic RUC fridge, does it have protection against reversed polarity and short circuit?
Yes, the Dometic RUC range is equipped with an electronic system to prevent the polarity being reversed. This will protect the fridge against reversed polarity when connecting to a battery and against short circuiting.

Yes, it is. We recommend airing the living space well, as when using the fridge for the first time, there might be a mild odour. This odour will disappear in a few hours.
-
If my vehicle has a battery management system, will that cause a problem when I connect my new fridge?
Dometic recommend deactivating the battery management system, as it will switch off the power supply to the refrigerator as soon as the vehicle engine is switched off for longer than 30 minutes. The fridge requires a constant DC power supply to operate. If your vehicle has a battery management system, just be aware that it may switch of the DC power to the fridge.

We recommend defrosting your fridge as soon as a layer of ice forms in the freezer compartment. The freezer will require periodic manual defrosting, if the frost layer is higher than 3 mm it is advised to defrost it.

We recommend to only store heavy objects such as bottles or cans in the refrigerator door, in the vegetable compartment or on the bottom shelf.
-
I can see that the fridge has a door airing function, what is it used for?
The door airing function is designed to use if you do not intend to use the fridge for a longer period. The function will prevent mould to form in the refrigerator.
-
I can see that the RUC range has an automatic cyclic defrost system, why is manual defrosting still needed?
This is a great question! The manual defrosting is required if you are using the fridge for an extended period in high humidity and/or high ambient temperature conditions. These conditions will cause frost to build up on the evaporator fins (behind the internal fan cover), if frost occurs there the cooling capacity will be reduced. It is recommended to do periodic manual defrosting if the payer if higher than 3mm.
-
What is the height from the floor to the compressor shelf?
The height from floor to compressor shelf is 1410mm.
