Top Caravan Upgrades To Transform Your Home On Wheels

A caravan can provide a comfortable home on wheels and convenient way to travel and explore the great outdoors. But just like improvements on your car or home, caravan upgrades can enhance the functionality and improve your overall comfort in your caravan. In this blog, we will be exploring some of the most innovative & game changing caravan upgrades on the market today from inverter air conditioners and power systems to anti-flap kits and weight distribution systems.

Aussie Traveller Anti-Flap Kits

An Aussie Traveller Anti-Flap Kit is a caravan upgrade must-have to safeguard your awning from flapping and potentially causing damage to the fabric. Awnings are a valuable investment for your caravan, and the last thing you want on your travels is to worry about it being ruined by adverse weather. On windy days, your awning can easily start flapping, and a single powerful gust can cause irreparable rips. The Anti-Flap Kit attaches onto the side of your caravan awning, preventing it from tearing, stretching, or water pooling and in turn extending the lifespan of your awning.

SOG Ventilation System

The SOG Toilet Ventilation System is an environmentally friendly option for motorhomes and caravans that offers a 100% chemical-free and odorless solution to toilet decomposition and smells. This system is compatible with popular 12V Thetford and Dometic cassette toilets and permanent black water tanks. Made with German engineering and expertise, this caravan upgrade works to remove odours through a powerful ventilator suction that draws only 0.43 watts.

Black Jack Electric Caravan Jack

The Black Jack Electric Caravan Jack is one of our bestselling caravan upgrades here at Caravan RV Camping – and for good reason. Manually operating a caravan jack can be time-consuming and physically demanding, especially after a long day on the road. The Black Jack electric jack takes the hassle out of the process by allowing you to lift or lower your caravan with the touch of a button. We offer a range of Black Jack bundles to suit different needs and setups, so you can choose the perfect combo for your caravan.

Privacy Screens

Busy caravan parks and campsites often mean close neighbours and limited space. A privacy screen helps create a more comfortable outdoor area by adding privacy, blocking the hot midday sun, and keeping nosy campers at bay. Available in black or grey, they’re a must-have accessory wherever you camp. The Aussie Traveller Sunblocker is a standout, featuring dual splines to suit multiple awnings and durable construction designed to last for years.

Dust Reduction Systems

Off-road travel often means dust finding its way into every corner of your van. A Dust Reduction System (DRS) helps keep the interior clean and is a must-have for off-road caravanning. There are two main types: powered and non-powered. Powered systems, like the Carafan, work whenever switched on (even when parked) offering the best protection. Non-powered systems, such as the Dometic DRS, only operate above 20 km/h but are a good option if you’re limited on 12V power. Spend more time exploring and less time wiping dust off everything with a dust reduction system.

Upright Compressor Fridge

Many caravanners have made the switch from old three-way absorption fridge to a two-way compressor fridges. Why? Compressor fridges offer more consistent and reliable cooling, even in hot environments. They can also be run using a variety of power sources, including from your battery, mains electricity and generators, and are more efficient when running on DC battery power.

Additionally, compressor fridges can work on uneven terrain, whereas absorption fridges require level ground to function properly due to their gas cooling system. Compressor fridges can also be installed fairly easily with limited skills and knowledge needed, while gas fridges must be installed and certified by a licensed gas fitter. This not only adds an extra step, but also presents a safety risk if the fridge is not installed correctly.

Inverter Air Conditioner

If you don't have an air conditioner and have struggled to stay cool while travelling in your caravan, it may be time to invest in this caravan upgrade. Air conditioning is not just a luxury, but a necessity for those spending extended periods in a caravan. We recommend considering one of the latest inverter models on the market, which are highly efficient and ultra-quiet. These air conditioners have a streamlined design with a low profile to reduce your caravan’s height and are made from lightweight materials to keep added weight to a minimum. They also feature inverter technology in the compressor, which reduces start-up power requirements and allows you to run them without a large, noisy generator when off-grid.

The newly released Dometic FreshJet 7 Series now boasts improved power efficiency and most importantly air purification. These units have been designed with the off-grid caravanner in mind. For limited roof space on smaller vans check out the FreshJet 7 Series Lite, at only 75cm long this air con will allow plenty of room for added solar.

Flexible Solar Panels

Flexible solar panels have been designed for vehicles with curved roofs, such as caravans, campervans, RVs, and even yachts. These panels are usually installed using tape or an adhesive meaning you don’t need heavy, rigid mounting frames, resulting in a much lighter panel. Some brands, like Renogy offer panels as thin as 1.5mm and weighing as little as 128g for a 150W panel. Despite their lightweight design, flexible panels are extremely durable. For example, eArc panels are reinforced with glass fibre, similar to airplane windows, and can withstand strong winds and loads.

Additionally, these panels are resistant to scratches and can withstand extreme temperatures, making them ideal for use in Australia. If flexible solar panels aren't for you there are a number of other solar options on the market including fixed, portable and solar blankets.

Off-grid Power System

A power system is a pre-configured system or board that operates and controls various appliances and electronics, such as lights, fridges, mobile phones, and TVs in your caravan or camper. The Enerdrive power system range comes pre-wired on a board, making it easy to install in your caravan without the need for extensive setup or technical knowledge. This caravan upgrade gives you peace of mind you won’t be purchasing unnecessary components or accessories that aren’t appropriate for your set-up. Enerdrive offer a range of Canopy Systems and eSYSTEM boards to suit all types of power requirements.

Thule provide a huge range of bike carriers that can be fixed to the front or back of your caravan making it easy to take you and your families bikes on your next adventure. There is a Thule range that offers the strength and durability to also carry the popular e-bike, this is known as the Elite G2 Bike Carrier. If you are limited for space on the back of your caravan check out the Thule Caravan Superb 2 range that can be mounted to the A frame of your caravans chassis.
