Traditional Land of:  Malgana People

If you’re one of the many people in the world who have been enchanted by the elegance and intelligence displayed by dolphins, then chances are that you’ve longed to interact with them. Well, there are few better places to experience that interaction than in Monkey Mia.

The experience can range from passive observation to planned encounters if you are fortunate enough to be chosen to feed them on the day you’re there. And there may even be unplanned encounters, since these friendly creatures are known to enter the swimming area at the resort and get up close and personal with the guests.

Naturally, no trip to the area would be complete without taking in some of the other attractions in the region. Throughout Shark Bay, you’ll encounter a variety of endangered species, exotic plants, and a host of animals you’ll not find anywhere else on Earth. Even the geology of the area is unique, as the ocean’s sea grass has impacted and shaped the local environment in remarkable ways.

So, while you might come for the dolphins, you’ll find far more than you bargained for as you adventure throughout the Shark Bay area. When you’re planning your trip to Monkey Mia, don’t forget to bring plenty of time with you, because you’ll need it!

Free Camping / Low Cost Camping

There are no real free camping options in Shark Bay. However, there are some permit camping options in the Shire, which allow you to enjoy a night of bush camping for a fee. You obtain the fee from the visitor Centre in Denham, and would be well advised to pay the $10 rather than suffer the minimum $100/person fine you'll warrant if you're caught without the necessary permit!
