If you're travelling with a caravan or motorhome, you probably already know how vital your awning is for creating outdoor living space and shade. But what many travellers learn the hard way is that without the right accessories, awnings are vulnerable — particularly in wind.
That’s where an anti-flap kit comes in. Specifically, Aussie Traveller’s Anti-Flap Kits are widely regarded as one of the best solutions on the market — not only because they perform well, but because Aussie Traveller actually invented the original aftermarket Anti-Flap Kit.
In this article, we’ll break down what anti-flap kits do, how Aussie Traveller’s versions work, and how they’re used across a variety of awning types.
Who Is Aussie Traveller?
Aussie Traveller is an Aussie-owned and operated company that’s been around since the time of shoulder pads and big hair (1988, to be precise). They manufacture Australia’s largest range of awnings and annexes (in addition to Fiamma), plus all the accessories you need, including anti-flap kits. They also supply a huge range of Caravan and RV components and accessories.
What Is an Anti-Flap Kit?
An Anti-Flap Kit (AFK) is a simple but effective device that clamps onto the outer edge of your awning fabric to stabilise it. It prevents the flapping noise and movement caused by wind and creates a more rigid awning structure.
Beyond noise and annoyance, this reduces wear and tear, minimises the risk of rips or sagging, and helps water run off more effectively in rainy conditions. Most anti-flap kits — including Aussie Traveller's — feature integrated sail tracks that let you slide in privacy screens or annex walls.
Why Use an Anti-Flap Kit?
Aussie Traveller’s Anti-Flap Kits are designed to:
-
Eliminate flapping noise: Constant flapping can keep you up at night and turn a peaceful setup into a frustrating one.
-
Protect your awning fabric: Flapping causes strain on seams and mounting points, which can lead to permanent damage.
-
Enhance stability: A more secure awning is more usable — even in moderate winds.
-
Support privacy and shade: With built-in sail tracks, you can attach privacy screens or walls, ideal for use in caravan parks or when space is tight.
-
Prevent water pooling: Especially when used with a curved roof rafter, the kit helps maintain tension and shape, so water drains efficiently.
How Do Aussie Traveller Anti-Flap Kits Work?
Aussie Traveller’s Anti-Flap Kits are clamped along the side edges of the awning fabric. They lock into place using a spigot system and tension star knobs to provide a firm hold. The clamp design secures the awning material from flapping while providing an inbuilt sail track for accessories.
Key features include:
-
Secure clamping over the awning fabric
-
Spigot end that inserts into your awning's roller or cassette
-
Sail track for side walls or privacy screens
-
Optional add-ons depending on your awning type and size
When combined with a Curved Roof Rafter, the system maintains a taut awning surface, improves water runoff, and further reduces movement in wind.

Common Installation Scenarios
Depending on your awning type and size, installation may involve simple clamping or may require extra adaptors or brackets. Here's an overview:
Fiamma F45 (Under 3m)
-
No drilling required
-
Paddle ends sit over the shock absorber
-
Spigot ends fit over triangular front bracket
-
One AFK arm is replaced with a 300mm extension
Fiamma F45 (3–3.5m)
-
Uses standard AFK arms (no extension needed)
-
No drilling typically required
Fiamma F45 (Over 3.5m)
-
Requires drilling and wall bracket installation
-
Still uses the same clamping system at the front cassette end
Roof-Mounted Awnings (Fiamma F80, Thule 6300/9200)
-
Installation requires a metal wall plate for hook ends
-
Outer cassette side uses a spigot bracket (Part A)
Thule 4200 (2.6m and 3–5m)
-
Under 3m: Paddle end and outer bracket installed
-
3m+: Additional wall bracket installed next to shock absorber
Add a Curved Roof Rafter
Curved Roof Rafters are used to help lengthen the life of your awning. They add stability to your awning and will prevent water pooling and stretching your awning material over time. They are good to pair with your anti-flap kit to keep your awning fabric taut to prevent flapping. Aussie Traveller has the most solid roof rafters on the market.
They come in two sizes:
-
Mini – with a curvature of 90mm, which is suitable for brand new awnings.
-
Maxi – with the largest curvature on the market at 120mm, which is suited to older awnings where the fabric is already stretched or loosened.

Final Thoughts
Aussie Traveller Anti-Flap Kits are engineered to suit a wide range of caravan awnings with precision and reliability. Whether you're using a roll-out awning or a cassette model from brands like Fiamma or Thule, there's a compatible AFK setup to stabilise your awning, reduce noise, and protect your investment.
While professional installation is recommended — especially for cassette or roof-mounted setups — many DIY-savvy travellers find them easy to install thanks to modular parts and detailed guides.

How do I stop water pooling on my Caravan Awning
In addition to the anti flap kit also put your Awning on a slight slope, slope away from the entry door. This can be done by having one of the supporting side arms one hole “Longer” than the other side. This will result in water running both down then across the awning where the roller is then onto the groundBy: Stuart Hollingworth on 25 May 2023
